A Review on the Various Grain Refinement Techniques Applied to Aluminium Alloys

Abstract

Grain refinement is a technique used to improve the properties of the alloys. It also helps to improve the performance of the alloy. Although the grain refinement has been performed over the years, it is still unclear about the various processes. This paper focuses on different types of grain refinement techniques applied to the Aluminium, and the various effects they have on its properties. The specific techniques and corresponding mechanisms will vary based on what materials are being considered. The performance of grain refiner TiB2 on aluminium is studied. The paper also reviews the mechanisms of grain refinement, the fading and titanium to molten aluminium before casting caused poisoning phenomena. The theoretical and practical implications of grain refinement phenomena are discussed.
